West Hawaii Island Gyrotonic® is proud to offer a variety of training courses and workshops for those wishing to learn to teach the
Gyrotonic Expansion System®. We offer Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis teacher training (Pre-training and Foundation Training),
Certified Instructor Updates, Supervised Apprentice Hour , and Specialized Equipment workshops are offered by request with our

GYROKINESIS ® Level I Certified Trainer Update taught in beautiful Makawao on the Island of Maui, Hawaii.
Join us as we review both the 60 minute and 90 minute GYROKINESIS® class formats, the new "preparation class"

Includes supportive hands-on cues to help you build your teaching skills.
This course serves to satisfy the Continuing Education and License Renewal for GYROKINESIS® Level I Trainers.

Course Description:
This 3-day review meets the requirements for Apprenticeship review hours with a Master Trainer. The Supervised Hours will review both the 60 minute and 90 minute GYROKINESIS® class formats and explore updates to existing exercises, & breathing patterns. Includes supportive hands-on cues to help you build your teaching skills. This course prepares the Apprentice for a successful participation in the GYROKINESIS® Final Certification Course. Prior to attending this review the student must complete 15 GYROKINESIS® classes documented on the Apprentice Log Sheet.

GYROKINESIS® Pre-Training Course

For students interested in deepening their understanding of the GYROKINESIS® Methodology, or for those interested in becoming Certified GYROKINESIS® Instructors.
This course is the first step and prerequisite to attend a GYROKINESIS® Foundation Course.
A typical GYROKINESIS® class begins with participants practicing self-massage and simple breathing patterns, something GYROKINESIS® creator, Juliu Horvath has named, "Awakening of the Senses." Then the spine and pelvis are engaged through simple exercises: while seated on low stools, participants mobilize the spine through a series of arching, curling, bending, twisting and spiraling movements. The corresponding breathing patterns executed during every movement stimulate the nervous system, open up the energy pathways and oxygenate the blood. All GYROKINESIS® classes, from beginner to advanced, encompass not only sitting but also lying and standing positions.
Successful Completion of Course will allow the Candidate a “passport” to take the GYROKINESIS® Foundation Course.

*Pre-requisite:
Successful completion of GYROKINESIS® Pre-Training Course, documented, and signed by any Authorized Pre-Trainer & GYROTONIC® Headquarters.
Students will be expected to bring in their Pre-Training Qualification “Passport” in order to participate in the Course.
A teacher training course for individuals whose intention is to teach GYROKINESIS®.
Materials included are a manual as well as two DVDs. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Level 1 Apprenticeship
certificate that will enable them to conduct Level 1 GYROKINESIS® classes as an Apprentice.

Virginia Holte
Virginia Holte is the Founder and Artistic Director for West Hawaii Dance
Theatre, Founder of West Hawaii Island GYROTONIC®
and Guest Instructor/Choreographer for The Maui Academy of Performing Arts.
A Graduate of The Academy of the Washington Ballet in Washington, D.C. under
the Direction of Mary Day, Ms Holte enjoyed a long career as a Professional
Dancer with the Washington Ballet,
Chicago Ballet, Indianapolis Ballet Theatre, and Guest Dancer for companies
such as Ballet Internationale,
Infinity Ballet, and Indiana Ballet Theatre N.W. before moving the The Big
Island of Hawaii in 1986.
A Third Series Practioner of Ashtanga Yoga, Ms. Holte is also certified in
the Pilates Method.

Pre-requisites: All Pre-requisites must be fulfilled prior to the training according to the educational guidelines of Gyrotonic Headquarters.

A registration form will be mailed to you. REGISTRATION MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY COURSE DEPOSIT TO BE COMPLETE.
Deposits: All Pre-Trainings and Foundation Trainings require a $300 registration deposit. All Updates, Workshops, and Specialized Equipment trainings require a $150 registration deposit. If travel expenses are necessary for the instructor, an additional travel fee might be added to the studio fee/registration deposit.
Balance: Once we receive your registration AND deposit, your spot in a training is secured. The remaining balance for all trainings is due on the first day of the course.
Attendance: It is mandatory to attend the entire course to be considered for certification. Make-up sessions are only for emergency circumstances and may be subject to additional fees.
Cancellation Policy: Once registered, please let WHIG know immediately if you are unable to attend. A full refund of the deposit is available when you notify WHIG 4 weeks or more prior to the start date of the workshop. Late cancellations (4 weeks or less before the start date) may be subject to the loss of the registration deposit depending on whether we are able to fill the spot with another participant. West Hawaii Island Gyrotonic reserves the right to postpone or cancel any course due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. In this event, all paid course fees will be refunded.
